Mind Set Art Center is pleased to announce the gallery’s showcase at Art Brussels 2025, titled “From Rome to Bucharest: The Historical Lens of Bogdan Vlădută”. The show is set to feature the titular artist’s latest oil paintings through which Vlădută conveys his thoughts on the historical weight and its lasting effect on his city and its cultural landscape. Art Brussels 2025 is scheduled to run from 25 to 27 April 2025, with a preview session scheduled for 24 April. We cordially extend an invitation to you.
Bogdan Vlăduță underwent formal training in painting in the 1990’s – a tumultuous period for Romania as the country was transitioning from Communism to a capitalist economy. The drastic shift affected all aspect of society, and Vlăduță, like many of his peers, was uncertain of his path in art. In a fashion not unlike the 17th-century aristocrats and their Grand Tours, Vlăduță eventually headed for Italy to search for the root of renaissance art and religion. During his two-year travel and painting in Rome, the artist discovered a deep connection between his work and Christianity – both share a deep reverence for history and the sanctity of life.
In his latest paintings, Vlăduță portrays a series of decrepit buildings that has stood the weathering of time and history. In “Seven Churches”, the artist has painted the remnants of destroyed churches that he believes carry two layers of meanings: The churches, despite their state, displays their beauty of architecture, of the care and science without pomp. At a deeper level, the image is a representation of Bucharest from a bygone era and is now disappearing and fading into history. In “Almhouse”, the Vlăduță has recreated the image of a tradition house, often seen in 19th-century Romania that served as shelters for the less privileged. The artist highlights and accentuates the beeswax candles on top of the roof, a Christian symbol of resurrection, to transpose this metaphysics of the belief in resurrection taken from the people who died and onto these urban artifacts of the old houses that are now leaving.
