In 2011, Mind Set Art Center presented the first solo exhibition of young Chinese artist HAUANG Liang in Taipei. HAUANG Liang, a name unfamiliar to many, was born in Northeast China in 1982 and graduated from the oil painting department of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, where he was taught to value the basics of painting. His painting technique is not only full of variation but also has a rare subtlety and profound emotional quality in contemporary Chinese art. This unique artistic temperament comes from a painful experience in his life before he turned 30.
From a young age, Huang Liang suffered from poor health. In junior high school, he experienced lymph node tuberculosis, and during his university years, he was misdiagnosed with lung cancer and underwent almost two years of chemotherapy. Before he reached the age of 20, HAUANG Liang had already experienced great pain and the ultimate test between life and death. This experience gave him a pair of eyes that saw the world differently from others, and a heart that was more delicate and fragile than most. Through the expression of painting and the redemption of self in the creative process, HAUANG Liang not only depicted the physical and emotional pain he experienced, but also found a way to recover his own life. Huang's paintings reflect his true-life experiences, although often with a hint of bitterness and melancholy. However, the unique style and sincere emotion in his work often leave a lasting impression on the viewer.
