Mind Set Art Center is pleased to present the exhibitition “Fabric, Interior and Water”, displayed at gallery from January 7 to February 24, 2023. The exhibition is a continuation of Cruz’s 2021 exhibit “Tide Table” at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and it consists of her latest oil paintings as well as early sculptures. The artist explores through her works the key recurring motifs: water, house and textile. Water is the embodiment of disaster in Cruz’s works since her old house was often flooded. The frequent accidents have left visible marks of liquidation. It is as if they have been integrated into its construction and decoration and become a key element in the artist’s rendering of the house. Walter Benjamin once said, “To live is to leave traces”, which heavily resonates with Cruz’ approach to memories. The artist combs through her family stories and memories and has created an alternative space in which “water” becomes another dimension. Much like in Benjamin’s saying, Cruz has left on her canvases memories of migration, along with all the chaos and nostalgia that are embedded in every single object.
