Lee Paje Philippines, b. 1980

Lee Paje employs carefully chosen materials and mediums—including painting on canvas and copper, sculpture, printmaking, video, and public art installations—to explore themes of independence, individuality, and identity. Her works delve into alternative realities that highlight the constraints of gender inequality, weaving contemporary lifestyles with the rigidity of past traditions. While her compositions often appear rooted in personal narratives, they extend into broader social, cultural, and historical commentary.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts (Painting), Paje was recognized with the Department of Studio Arts Outstanding Thesis Award. Her career includes participation in renowned artist residencies such as ART OMI in New York and LIA in Leipzig, Germany, supported by the Goethe-Institut. She was featured in the 2014 Young Artist Discovery at Art Taipei and won both the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Don Papa Art Competition.

In 2021, Paje exhibited large-scale works at QAGOMA, Australia, as part of the 10th Asia Pacific Triennial, affirming her position as a significant voice in contemporary art. Through her practice, she critically engages with themes of identity, culture, and history, offering profound insights into the complexities of the human experience.
