Mo Zhang was born in 1985 in Beijing, China. After graduating from the Nanjing University’s Literature School, he earned a Master’s Degree in Chinese traditional painting at Tsinghua University’s Academy of Arts & Design, and subsequently an M.A. in art history at l'Université Paris-Sorbonne. In 2017, Zhang earned his certificate at the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles and has since worked and lived in Paris, France. He began to create the “#loveme” series of paintings in 2018. The works focus on the modern trend of taking selfies at popular locations. With clear lines and bright colors, the painter captures the way that modern public showcase themselves on the internet, and points to the deeper, psychological tendencies of a generation that curates their own image.
