Wu Yiming was born in 1966 in Shanghai, China. In 1986, Wu graduated from the Shanghai Art & Design Academy. In 1992, he graduated from the Fine Arts Dept. of the East China Normal University. The systematic training has made him a seasoned ink brush painter, capable of fine brush work, ink spreading. His works exude the soft and unpredictable qualities unique to ink brush paintings. In his own ways, Wu also tries to challenge the traditions in which he was trained. He often paints potted plants, street lamps, landscapes, urban men and woman, various flowers and his favorite Song-Dynasty porcelain. His choice of subjects is rooted in the environment and society he lives in and is a clear departure from conventions, which allows him to imbue this age-old medium with new vigor and possibilities. Outside of Mainland China, Wu’s works have been exhibited in Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Portugal and the United States.
